El Triunfo: Cabo’s Quaint Mining Town
For a trip back in time, plan a day trip to El Triunfo, a small mining town located an hour’s drive from Todos Santos along Highway 19. In 1862, silver and gold were discovered in the southern mountains of Baja California Sur, prompting miners from Mexico and the United States to set up camp. Many of these miners had participated in the 1849 California gold rush. But others seeking riches journeyed from as far away as China, Russia, Italy, Germany, England and Canada.

A Quintessential Mexican Holiday: Day of the Dead
While Halloween is a cherished and much-anticipated holiday in the U.S., where kids dress in costume and trick-or-treat from door to door, in Mexico the main autumnal celebration is Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos).
A uniquely Mexican holiday that originated long ago in several pre-Hispanic cultures, Day of the Dead is an acknowledgement that death is a natural phase in life’s continuum. The dead, kept alive in memory and spirit, are recognized as members of the community. Imbedded in the culture is the belief that the souls of the deceased return to the home of the living to be with family members and feed on the food offered to them on the altars placed in their honor.

November 22, 2019 Sabor a Cabo, “The Taste of Cabo,” one of the largest and most prestigious international food and wine festivals in Mexico, will be staged on Saturday, November 30. Sponsored this year by American Express, this world-class gastronomic celebration, now in its 14th edition, attracts “foodies” from across the globe. The eagerly anticipated event benefits local charities, including the Red Cross, Los Cabos Children’s Foundation, and the “Bomberos Voluntarios” fire department in Cabo San Lucas. The culinary festival, which gets underway at 5:00 p.m. on the golf course at Club Campestre San Jose, will feature more than 60 chefs as well as 40 wineries and distilleries representing the best Mexican wines and showcasing the nation’s finest tequila and mescal producers. A live cooking contest will feature celebrity chefs Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Francis Reynard and Jonatan Gomez Luna as jurors. In addition, the audience will be invited to vote in various categories through an online system. Each participating restaurant will present a wine pairing dish, and attendees will select several winners in the categories of best food stand, best service, three favorite dishes, favorite wine pairing, and best wine. Sabor a Cabo’s musical entertainment this year will spotlight a special double concert by Maluma, a Colombian singer and songwriter; and Ana Torroja, former lead singer of the Spanish pop trio Mecano. Among the restaurants that will be preparing and serving their iconic dishes at the culinary festival are Sunset Monalisa, Nick-San, La Deriva, Cocina del Mar, Los Tres Gallos, Jazamango, Pitahayas, Casa Calavera, Sancho Panza, Maria Corona, and many more. Comprised of local restaurateurs and entrepreneurs, the destination’s restaurant chamber (CANIRAC delegation) created Sabor a Cabo to promote the culinary attributes of Los Cabos and to support local charities. The participation of the restaurants is a direct reflection of their commitment to the destination. Tickets are available at Koral Concierge, which is located on the km 24.5 of the Transpeninsular Highway, next to the Hampton Inn lobby, Cerro Colorado San José del Cabo. The office is open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Monday to Sunday. Parking will be available at the Los Cabos Convention Center.
