Los Cabos Welcomes Back World-Class Tennis
The ninth edition of the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo, an ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) tournament, will showcase some of the world’s best players competing in singles and doubles matches.
Scheduled for July 14-19, the tournament, which has grown in stature since its debut in 2016, is now ranked among the most important tennis events in Latin America.
Organizers anticipate that last year’s attendance record of 34,000 spectators will be surpassed. With an estimated economic impact of $6.5 million USD, the tournament, a.k.a. the Los Cabos Tennis Open, delivers significant benefits to the region.
This annual competition is part of the ATP World Tour 250 series. Entertaining a vast international audience each year, ATP tournaments feature the world’s finest tennis players in beautiful locations with the mission to inspire the next generation of players and fans.
Among the top-ranked professionals expected to compete in this year’s event are Russia’s Andrey Rublev (ATP No. 9), Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti (ATP No. 17 and an Olympic bronze medalist in 2024), and Canada’s Denis Shapovalov (ATP No. 32). A total of 28 singles players and 16 doubles teams will compete for a prize purse of $852,840 USD.
Once again, the Cabo Sports Complex (CSC) will be the venue. Featuring outdoor hard courts, the CSC, purpose-built for comfort and visibility, is a multifunctional arena capable of hosting an array of sports and entertainment events. With its contrasting views of the desert and sea, this marvelous complex connects with Cabo’s natural elements. Designed to integrate the facility’s architecture with the landscape, the rustic buildings are made of rammed earth, a very hard and unique construction material that blends with the colors and textures of the desert. A spacious facility, the CSC has seating for 3,500 in the main stadium and a secondary stadium with 1,000 seats. In addition, a new sixth court will be used at the CSC to expand the facilities and enhance the experience for both players and fans.
A new wrinkle this year is Electronic Line Calling (ELC), a live electronic review system used at top international tournaments to enhance match accuracy. The device eliminates the need for traditional line judges.
After enjoying top-class tennis in a fantastic sports complex, patrons are free to explore the area and enjoy everything the region has to offer, from pristine beaches to fine dining. Pueblo Bonito resort guests can sign up for a relaxing treatment at an Armonia Spa, or tee it up at Quivira Golf Club, a spectacular Jack Nicklaus Signature design. Tennis and pickleball courts are also available at Pueblo Bonito Pacifica and Sunset Beach.
A variety of ticket options are available for the Mifel Tennis Open. The Full Week Series includes access to the Main Stadium, the Grandstand Caliente MX and alternate courts, and the commercial area and food area. The Weekend Series and Early Week Series offer the same access and benefits. Individual tickets can be purchased the week of the tournament.
For a truly memorable experience, Beyond Hospitality, commanding a terrace overlooking the main stadium, offers personalized service, top-shelf fare, and premium open bar.
Finally, Saturday, July 12 is “Kids Nite,” billed as an exclusive experience where children can interact with the players up close before the tournament.
Tickets can be purchased locally in San Jose del Cabo (624) 156-0534; in digital format through Ticketmaster; or online at the tournament website: https://loscabostennisopen.com/en/home/.
