Fitness Activities Around Quivira Los Cabos

The resort and residential community of Quivira Los Cabos has lots of space. Which means ample opportunities for recreation across 1850 acres.
Q Life director Paola Villareal noted that several of the fitness activities currently available originated in Q Life’s “Experiences in Nature” pillar, which focuses on connecting with Mother Nature as a source of happiness, healing, and growth. Other activities have been established at the request of fitness-oriented residents who want to keep up with their routines. Most activities are available six days a week, from Monday through Saturday.
For example, Villareal noted that yoga classes, an ancient practice that “yokes” body and mind and is now totally mainstream, take place in four locations: the Beach Club, upstairs in the golf clubhouse, at the Copala gym, and at the residential community of Mavila.
Pilates, a mind-body-spirit exercise regimen, was created in the early 20th century by German physical trainer Joseph Pilates, who developed the method while interned in a British camp during World War I, initially to rehabilitate his fellow prisoners. Now practiced by millions worldwide, Pilates emphasizes core strength, precise movement, and controlled breathing. Pilates classes are held both upstairs in the golf clubhouse and outside near the Beach Club.
New on Q Life’s menu of fitness activities is “Yogalates.” Yogalates sessions generally start as a traditional yoga class, with warm-ups and gentle stretching, followed by basic breathing exercises and brief meditation. Deeper into the class, asanas (postures) are introduced, supported by deep breathing. The pace of Yogalates begins to change when the movements gradually quicken nearly to the pace of Pilates, which is faster than yoga.
Also recently introduced is HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), a workout regimen that alternates between short bursts of intense exercise and brief recovery periods. These workouts, held at the Beach Club gym, are known for their time efficiency and effectiveness in improving cardiovascular fitness. HIIT also burns calories.
Villareal spotlighted other fitness activities available to residents:

  • Cross-Training (adds cardio, strength and flexibility exercises to a participant’s main training routine)
  • Power-Flex (instructor-led strength-training class utilizes barbells, dumbbells, body weight, and stability balls to increase strength and endurance)
  • Dancing (Latin rhythms)
  • Aqua Fitness (water aerobic exercises done vertically in the waist-deep waters of a swimming pool)
  • Mobility Training (employs a variety of exercises and movements designed to enhance flexibility, balance and strength)

There’s more. Villareal stated that sunset hikes to the red-and-white lighthouse atop the hill are now available once a week. Mountain and E-bike rentals, with numerous trails available, can be reserved in advance and picked up at The Market at Quivira.
Social pickleball games are increasingly popular, with mixed doubles the preferred format. Year-end pickleball tournaments will be scheduled in November and December. Within the Q Life community, golf and tennis still have their devotees as well.
