Best Places for a Beer in Cabo

In a warm, dry, sunny place like Los Cabos, there’s nothing like a good thirst quencher. And the beverage of choice for many visitors to this desert-by-the-sea destination is beer, a.k.a. cerveza.

Until the Oct. 26 debut of The After at Quivira, a new sports bar that will offer 16 different types of artisanal Mexican and American beers on draft, lovers of the suds can explore a couple of other options where a perfectly drawn pint (or an ice-cold bottle of beer) is yours for the asking. Want to order like a local? Just say Quiero una cerveza!

Baja Brewery Co. Opened in 2007 by a native of Colorado and the first brewery established in Baja California Sur, this early adapter operates three cantinas in Los Cabos. In addition to the original location in San Jose del Cabo, patrons can head to the marina and look for the giant donkey (the brewery’s humorous logo) outside the ground floor of Puerto Paraiso Mall in Cabo San Lucas. It’s a great place to kick back on the outdoor patio, watch the yachts drift by, enjoy live music four nights a week or catch your favorite sports event on one of 12 big screen TV's. The beer pizzas (made with beer yeast and spent grain) are unique and very tasty. Of the six beers typically available, opt for the award-winning Blonde Ale, a refreshing Mexican brew that’s rich, malty and full-bodied.

La Pintada. This popular brew pub and restaurant in Cabo San Lucas features the beers of Ramuri, a top-rated Mexican craft brewery based in Tijuana. A wide selection of styles is available. According to Ramuri, “Cerveza Artesanal Mexicana brews beer with the highest quality ingredients,” combining old-world influences with a diversity of flavors endemic to the gastronomic riches of Mexico. Among the styles available are Mexican Premium Lager, Hefeweizen, Imperial Stout, Oatmeal Stout, and London Brown. Each is unique and distinctive. Seasonal selections are available on draft. La Pintada is conveniently located on Boulevard Lazaro Cardenas and offers valet parking as well as a spacious venue for special events. Beer connoisseurs can be found at the bar debating the relative merits of each beer with fellow patrons. The menu offers a good selection of well-prepared steaks, salads and seafood.
