Quivira Golf Club Receives Golf Digest Award for Sixth Consecutive Year

Verifying a standard of excellent matched by few others, Golf Digest has bestowed on Quivira Golf Club its coveted Editors’ Choice Award in the ‘Best Golf Resorts in Mexico & Central America’ category. This is the sixth consecutive year the club and its spectacular Jack Nicklaus Signature course has been singled out for recognition by the sport’s most esteemed and widely read publication.

“Our mission to serve our readers has not wavered,” said Ryan Herrington, the magazine’s executive digital editor. “We seek to identify ‘The Best Things in Golf,’ with an emphasis on lifestyle properties.” He added that “top destinations and travel-related services” were recognized in the 2021 survey “in hopes that golf trips will be something we can all enjoy again in the not-to-distant future.”

Quivira’s safety protocols should put every golfer at ease. Tee times spaced 15 minutes apart. Sanitized golf carts and GPS screens. No bunker rakes. “Touchless” golf cups. Courteous masked staff.

The golf course itself, opened to international acclaim in 2014, is a force of nature. Remember those fantasy golf calendars with far-fetched holes airbrushed onto vertical cliffs? Quivira has a few of those. It also has twisting arroyos, acres of cactus, lots of rocks…in sum, a little bit of everything Cabo has to offer. The drive to the fifth hole, which traces a switchback route up the side of a mountain, climbs to a vertigo-inducing tee perched 275 feet above the foaming surf. At under 300 yards from the forward tees, this downhill par 4 can be driven, but it’s ‘hasta la vista’ if you miss the rock-walled, cliff-hanging green. The par-3 sixth, its concave green carved from the base of huge stippled dune, is equally dramatic. After swinging near an historic lighthouse at true Land’s End, the layout weaves through the dunes and returns to the cliffs at No. 13, a tiny par 3 that plays over a yawning abyss to a midget green set atop a pinnacle of fissured granite rising 100 feet from the crashing surf. For pure drama, it’s off the charts. It’s also a popular place for golf’s most thrilling shot, a hole-in-one.

Golf Digest’s description of Quivira Golf Club sums up the layout’s continuing appeal. “At the tip of Baja (California) Sur is the newest of more than a dozen Jack Nicklaus layouts in Mexico, and perhaps his most compelling, with holes along and atop granite cliffs and sand dunes overlooking the Pacific,” the report stated. “Several lodging facilities nearby offer access,” including Pueblo Bonito Pacifica

Golf & Spa Resort, a deluxe all-inclusive, adults-only beachfront property located five minutes from the club.

Created as an exclusive amenity for guests of Pueblo Bonito Resorts and the cornerstone of the Quivira Los Cabos residential development, this bold risk-reward layout, marked by windswept dunes, vertical cliffs and desert foothills, offers panoramic views and breathtaking drops from tee to fairway. In a dazzling destination renowned for its ocean-desert-mountain ecosystem, Quivira offers more oceanfront exposure than any other golf course in Los Cabos.

A memorable test from any set of tees, this 7,085-yard, par-72 tour de force may be the most daring and eclectic course Jack Nicklaus has ever built. Since its debut, Quivira has become a “must-play” venue for discerning golfers from around the globe. Golf Digest’s 2021 Editors’ Choice Award, the sixth given to the club, is further confirmation that Quivira is in a class of its own.
