The Letty Coppel Social Assistance Center Opens

While the Pueblo Bonito brand is most recognized for its exceptional collection of all-inclusive resort hotels stretched along some of Mexico’s most stunning coastlines, it’s the work beyond the golden sands and turquoise-blue waters that can really make a difference. The recent debut of the Letty Coppel Assistance Center, designed to lend a helping hand to those in need, is proof positive that while Los Cabos is a world-class destination that caters to upscale travelers, Pueblo Bonito is honored to share in life-changing work to strengthen family ties within local communities.

Mr. and Mrs. Coppel, alongside their daughters Letty and Hayley as well as company directors, managers, executives, and special attendees, shared their heartfelt appreciation and support for the center. They also noted the importance of Pueblo Bonito’s active involvement in community wellness and personal growth.

Before cutting the ribbon and touring the facility, Gabriela Velazquez de Mendoza, state director of the National System for the Integral Development of the Family, presented a certificate to the center’s all-female staff of doctors and nurses to accredit their activities. Following the presentation, a young man diagnosed with brittle bone disease gave moving testimony of how the Foundation has given him and his family crucial support and positivity. Everyone in attendance was reminded once again of the power of compassion, goodwill, and altruism.

The new center is an outgrowth of the Letty Coppel Foundation, which was founded by Mrs. Coppel in 2004 with the objective of improving the quality of life in the communities of Los Cabos and Mazatlan. Since the beginning, one of the Foundation’s main goals has been to support those most in need. At the forefront are families and living conditions within their communities. A key initiative is to promote culture, knowledge, and sustainable development to build a better society.

Following the success of a comparable facility in Mazatlan, the non-profit foundation decided to offer the same type of aid to the Los Cabos community. Thanks to generous donations and other investment sources totaling more than $800,000 USD, construction of the new center got underway in February 2020. As of May 3, social assistance and medical care began to be offered at no cost to the region’s low-income families. The center’s menu of services is comprehensive: general medicine, psychology, nutrition, pedagogy, and physical rehabilitation therapy. In addition, the center helps women learn new skills (such as jewelry making or confectionery) to generate self-employment and help move their families forward.

“There is nothing like giving back and having a positive influence on other people,” said Mrs. Coppel. “Having a chance to improve people’s lives is not only a wonderful opportunity, but also a responsibility that we all have. I am blessed to be able to do this.”

Tours of the new center are currently available to Pueblo Bonito guests, owners, and Quivira Los Cabos residents who wish to see for themselves good deeds in action.
