San Jose del Cabo Art Walk

San Jose del Cabo Art Walk

It’s back! San Jose del Cabo’s Thursday night Art Walk is once again a fixture on the seasonal calendar. The Art Walk offers visitors a perfect opportunity to explore the historic colonial city’s vibrant arts district. Hidden behind the landmark church off Plaza Mijares (the main square) is an eclectic array of art galleries, artisan shops and charming restaurants set along cobblestone lanes that open their doors to one and all. More than a dozen Gallery District Association members invite strollers to meet artists, view new exhibits and enjoy a complimentary glass of wine or tequila in a welcoming atmosphere.

Genres range from painting and sculpture to folk art, ceramics and photography by Mexican and international artists. Best of all, Obregon Street, the main drag, is closed to traffic from 5 to 9 p.m., turning the center of town into a pedestrian thoroughfare where live bands (traditional mariachi to rock ‘n roll) perform on street corner and from rooftops.

For those driving from Cabo San Lucas or the Corridor, plan to park on Calle Centenario, the boulevard that runs behind the downtown area. For easiest access, park close to the foot of Morelos Street (near the yellow-walled El Encanto Inn & Suites) and walk into town from there. You’ll immediately be embraced by a festive atmosphere, and with reason: Art Walk, scheduled every Thursday from now until June, is one of the most fun-filled, open-air events in all of Los Cabos.
