Extreme Sailing Series Returns to Cabo

Extreme Sailing Series Returns to Cabo

Los Cabos will be the final stop of the Extreme Sailing Series™, an exciting competition that has already visited seven venues on its 2018 global tour. The vessels, en route from San Diego, Calif., will arrive in time for the final leg of competition to be held in Los Cabos from Nov. 29 – Dec. 2.

Established in 2007, the Extreme Sailing Series is the original Stadium Racing sailing circuit designed for spectators, delivering high-performance action close to shore and putting guests at the heart of the battle. Attracting some of the world’s top sailors, racing the hydro-foiling GC32 catamarans on short courses, the global circuit spans the Middle East, Asia, Europe and the Americas.

Now in its 12th consecutive season, the 2018 Extreme Sailing Series kicked off in Oman, Muscat on March 14. The fleets of the Extreme Sailing Series and the GC32 Racing Tour united to compete in the GC32 World Championship in Riva del Garda, Italy from May 24 – 27.

The crews then competed in Barcelona from June 14 – 17 before heading to Cascais, Portugal for a regatta that took place from July 5 – 8. Next up was the Russian city of St. Petersburg, where racing took place with the Winter Palace and the Peter and Paul Fortress as a backdrop. Cardiff welcomed the fleet again this year as part of the Cardiff Port Festival from August 24 –27. The penultimate act was held in San Diego from Oct. 18 – 21.

As in 2017, this season’s grand finale, presented by Element Sports Group, will take place in Los Cabos following the event’s successful premiere last year. The teams will battle for the final time and, with double-points up for grabs, everything is still to play for. Because the high-speed catamarans race close to shore, spectators can watch the action from Medano Beach, adjacent to Pueblo Bonito’s downtown properties – Pueblo Bonito Rosé and Pueblo Bonito Los Cabos.

"The Act in 2017 was a great success and one of the most successful held in Los Cabos throughout the year,” said Rodrigo Esponda, Managing Director of FITURCA, Tourism Trust of Los Cabos. “We are honored that the Series returns this year for the final stage of the championship. It’s an opportunity to show Los Cabos to the world as one of the world's top tourist destinations."
