Day Trip to Cerritos Beach

Day Trip to Cerritos Beach

Los Cabos, and its collection of Pueblo Bonito Golf & Spa Resorts, has a nearly inexhaustible abundance of fun and interesting things to do. But a full or half-day excursion can really round out a vacation experience. Why not switch it up and explore the Pacific side of Cabo, specifically Cerritos Beach?

Located 45 minutes from Cabo San Lucas, Playa Los Cerritos is situated on the outskirts of the sleepy little farming community of Pescadero. Cerritos is readily accessible via a beautiful new four-lane highway (Highway 19) that sweeps through the mountains and runs along a rugged coastline where the dark ultramarine water kisses the shore with frothy waves of turquoise blue. Head north for Todos Santos and look for the turnoff at the top of a hill at Km. 66. Drive about 1.7 miles down a dirt road to the beach area.

Cerritos is a well-known surf spot with a superb beach break. It’s also the only safe swimming and surfing beach on the Pacific for hundreds of miles. Much like a Southern California beach, the sand at Cerritos is finer and darker than the beaches in Los Cabos. The pristine crescent-shaped beach, nearly three miles long, is perfect for carefree strolling or a vigorous walk. There’s always a nice cool breeze off the sea, too. Water sports buffs can rent a surfboard or a boogie board and even take a lesson at one of the surf schools on the beach. Body surfers will also enjoy ‘catching a wave’ at Cerritos, with wonderful long rides and a nice sandy bottom free of rocks.

Beachgoers to Cerritos are best advised to come prepared with their own food, drinks, and beach gear. If you want to make a full day of your trip to the Pacific side of Cabo, head 15 minutes north of Cerritos to Todos Santos, a recognized “Pueblo Magico” and oasis in the desert with a charming historic district.
