Discover the Baja's Mining History in “El Triunfo”

Two hours from Cabo San Lucas, between mountains and desert, is El Triunfo a small historic town in the middle of the Southern Californian desert, it was founded in 1751. During that same year the mine located in the town was registered with the name of “El Triunfo de la Santa Cruz” by Manuel de Ocio, being the driving force of La Baja's economy at that time.

By the end of the 19th century, the town was at a total economic boom, due to the arrival of important mining companies and political and population growth. One of them being “El Progreso Mining Company” who invested in the infrastructure of the town by installing a telephone line, built a hacienda and introduced the steam railway that connected the hacienda to the main mines in the region.

During the first years of the 20th century, due to the depreciation that occurred throughout the world, as well as some natural phenomena in the region, marked the beginning of abandonment of some mines and the depopulation of the most important municipal areas.
